Profile:
Kenta Kobayashi was one of the last graduates of All Japan's dojo in 1999 before the historic NOAH split, of which he was a part. Hampered by injuries in the early stages of his career, Kobayashi added muscle to his frame and shook off the injury bug. After returning from an injury in July, 2001, he changed his name to simply KENTA, perhaps because of his real name's likeness to that of his mentor, Kenta Kobashi. He made quick progress as a wrestler, refining his style and image until he became one of the most exceptional young combatants in wrestling. A very athletic and skilled junior heavyweight, KENTA combines high-flying with some deadly strikes, and has already gained a big fan following (particularly with female fans!). 2003 was a big year for KENTA as he, alongside his partner Naomichi Marufuji, became the first winners of the GHC Jr. Heavyweight Tag Titles after they defeated Jushin 'Thunder' Liger & Takehiro Murahama in the finals of the title tournament. KENTA continued to make waves in NOAH in 2004 when he embarked on a 7 match singles trial, where he was a more than credible opponent for such heavyweights as Yoshihiro Takayama, Jun Akiyama, Mitsuharu Misawa and Kenta Kobashi. On October 29th 2006, he received a shot at the GHC Heavyweight Championship against his long-time partner Naomichi Marufuji, but lost in a memorable match which won "Best Bout" in Tokyo Sports' annual professional wrestling awards. In March 2008 he once again won the GHC Jr. Heavyweight Tag Titles, this time with Taiji Ishimori as his partner.
