Profile: A former sumo wrestler, Kawabata debuted for Genichiro Tenryu's short-lived SWS promotion in 1991. After SWS folded, he wrestled as a freelancer for many years, roaming the indy circuit and making appearances in promotions such as Tenryu's WAR, Big Japan, and Tokyo Pro. He got a lucky break when Richard Slinger was injured and he was asked to fill in on NOAH's big 12/23/00 Tokyo Ariake Colosseum convention. He became a regular freelancer in NOAH, before signing a contract at the start of 2002 and officially joining the ark.
