    During a title defense against Makoto Hashi on 4/7/02, GHC Jr. Heavyweight Champion, Naomichi Marufuji, suffered a serious knee injury. Hashi would go on to win the match by referee stop, but was not satisfied with his victory and vacated the title shortly after. Almost one year exactly after the tournament to determine the first GHC Jr. Champion, a second one took place throughout "NAVIGATION WITH BREEZE 2002". And one year later the man who won the first tournament would take the gold home once again.

    GHC Jr. Heavyweight Title Tournament (5/6/02 to 5/26/02)

    Round 1: Tsuyoshi Kikuchi beat Richard Slinger (10:48) with an armlock.
    Round 1: KENTA beat Kotaro Suzuki (12:01) with a German suplex hold.
    Round 1: Makoto Hashi beat Juventud Guerrera (13:17) with an avalanche-style Blue Thunder.
    Round 1: Yoshinobu Kanemaru beat Ray Gordy (15:34) with a brainbuster.
    Semi Final: KENTA beat Tsuyoshi Kikuchi (4:24) with a high-angle reverse cradle.
    Semi Final: Yoshinobu Kanemaru beat Makoto Hashi (15:43) with a brainbuster.
    Final: Yoshinobu Kanemaru beat KENTA (16:01) with a brainbuster.
